là

there

adverb lah Common

Usage Note

Là means 'there' but in speech often just points to 'here', and it glues onto nouns for emphasis, as in cet homme-là for 'that man over there'. The everyday oh là là expresses surprise or dismay, and voilà literally bundles up 'see there'.

Examples

"Il est là."

Natural Translation

He is there.
